National University of Study and Research in Law(NUSRL)
National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL) is a National Law University located in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. It was established by a legislative act, by the State of Jharkhand (Act no. 4 of 2010) as the fourteenth National Law University of India. Dr. Ashok R Patil is the present Vice-Chancellor of the university, and he took the reins from the former Vice-Chancellor Kesava Rao, Vurrakula. Earlier, he was the Professor of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, He has completed his B.Sc. (Criminology & Forensic Science) (1993), LL.B. (1996), LL.M. (Mercantile Law) with First Rank (1998), Ph.D. in Consumer Law under UGC Fellowship, 2006from Karnataka University; NET (2000); NCC “C” Certificate (1992); NSS Certificate (1993); Diploma in Cyber Law; Accredited Mediator.
He was practising before the High Court of Karnataka till 1999. He has 25 years of teaching experience. He worked as a Lecturer and Principal at KLEs Bellad Law College, Belgaum, from 1999 to 2008. He joined NLSIU in August 2008 as an Associate Professor and administered the Chair on Consumer Law & Practice, which was established by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India. He was promoted to a Professor in 2011. He was also Founder Director of the ‘Online Consumer Mediation Centre’ (OCMC) at NLSIU. He took charge of the Vice Chancellor, NUSRL, Ranchi, in June 2023. He has presented research papers at International conferences in more than 15 countries. He has conducted many training programs for Consumer Commission Members, Government Officers, Consumer Club Teachers, NGOs, Students, and Mediators. His area of specialization is Consumer Welfare Laws, Law of Torts, Mediation, and Insurance Law.
A.K. Koul was the founding Vice-Chancellor of the university, who specialized in international trade law, especially on the WTO. Earlier, he was the vice-chancellor of National Law University, Jodhpur. The university is located on Kanke-Pithoria Road on the outskirts of Ranchi, just ahead of Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry & Allied Sciences and Birsa Agricultural University, surrounded by Outer Ranchi Ring Road. It was formally inaugurated by the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court and Supreme Court Judge-designate Justice Gyan Sudha Misra on 26 April 2010.
